As Variety reports, Roger Michell (Notting Hill) will direct the remake for Millennium Films, working from a script by Silent Heart’s original screenwriter, Christian Torpe.
In what promises to be a completely emotionally devastating premise, Keaton will play the terminally ill mother of Winslet and Wasikowska’s characters in Blackbird. She decides to bring her family together for one last weekend before she commits suicide.
Currently, Winslet is reteaming with Titanic director James Cameron on his four concurrent Avatar sequels. Wasikowska flipped the damsel-in-distress stereotype on its head in Western comedy Damsel opposite Robert Pattinson, and Keaton is shooting Poms, a comedy about a group of women who start a cheerleading squad at their retirement community outside Phoenix.
Shooting begins on Blackbird in London this August.
