Die Antwoord Accuse Suicide Squad of Ripping Off Their Style

Movies News Die Antwoord

South African rap-rave duo Die Antwoord have accused Suicide Squad director David Ayer of stealing their style.

This morning, Die Antwoord singer Yolandi Visser posted a video on Instagram with side-by-side comparisons of footage from Suicide Squad and photos of the band. The comparisons included photos of Visser and Harley Quinn both wearing three watches, and screencaps of the movie using the band’s “black & white graf style.” The video was accompanied by Craig Mack’s “Jockin’ My Style.”

The post also claimed that Ayer called the group’s other vocalist, Ninja, before making the film, and that Cara Delevingne and Jared Leto told them that Ayer referenced Die Antwoord while directing the movie.

“Cara & Jared told us how much u were talkin abt us on set but u never asked our permision to rip us off,” reads the Instagram caption. “An when ninja texted u sayin wassup wif dat u said nothin like a scared lil bitch. U were jus flauntin our names pretendin to b down. u aint down an u never will b.”

The post also mentioned that Ninja went to the movie premiere: “Den poor ninja had to sit thru dat hole bullshit movie. An u even got da nerve to say wassup to him smilin – an ninja has to b nice cus he is there wif his kid.”
