Netflix Acquires Sci-Fi Thriller Extinction From Universal

Less than a week after the debut of The Cloverfield Paradox, Netflix has acquired another sci-fi film that a studio was rather willing to get off their hands. According to Variety, Universal’s Extinction now belongs to Netflix and will be released on the streaming service later this year. The sale comes two months after Universal removed the film from its release schedule.

The film stars Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield) and Michael Pena (Ant-Man) as a husband and wife charged with defending their family from an invading alien force. The film also stars Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Emma Booth (Once Upon a Time) and Israel Broussard (Happy Death Day).

The film is directed by relative unknown Ben Young, from a script by Bradley Caleb Kane and Spenser Cohen.
