Indie-rock group Cursive have dropped their latest single, “I Am Goddamn” and announced their 2020 West Coast tour dates.
With their forthcoming album Get Fixed set for release this Friday, Oct. 11, the band’s new single released Wednesday is a hypnotic, off-kilter teaser of what’s to come. This latest track is hot on the heels of the single released on Oct. 1, “Stranded Satellite.”
The catchy track doesn’t seem to make sense, yet still resonates, particularly seeing as how frontman Tim Kasher explains in a digital letter that “current events have certainly left their grimy fingerprints on some of the music we’ve written these last few years.” “I Am Goddamn” is no exception to this, with a tense backing track and lyrics like, “I am no Messiah, I’m just a mess / Oh Christ, I’m just not that complex / I’m no God damn.”
It’s a lot to unpack.
Get Fixed is set for release on Cursive’s own 15 Passenger Records and is available for preorder on the group’s Bandcamp. Following the release, Cursive will head out on their previously announced tour with Against Me! before kicking off their 2020 West Coast tour in Denver, Colo., with Cloud Nothings.
