Del Water Gap Shares Video for New Single, “Laid Down My Arms”
Image via Terrible RecordsDel Water Gap, the solo project of Brooklyn singer-songwriter S. Holden Jaffe, has released a new track and accompanying video, “Laid Down My Arms.” Jaffe has put out a handful of singles and EPs in the past, but this new song is his debut single for Terrible Records.
“Laid Down My Arms” is about seeking solace in relationships when you feel crushed by the weight of every other overwhelming part of life. It’s about those brief moments of comfort that make all the periods of struggle, pain and lack of meaning worth it. The track’s reverb-laden guitars are met by Jaffe’s sultry vocals as the chorus swells with a robust rush of opposing forces: melancholy ambience and heartfelt infatuation.
The video was directed by Dillon Moore and filmed at the home of Jaffe’s grandmother, who also happens to be an award-winning film director. She apparently watched Moore’s work closely the entire time, at one point grilling him on what format he was shooting in. Jaffe says of the new song and video, “I had the honor of making this song with some of my best friends, and this video with my Grandmother. She won an Emmy the year I was born. And what was I doing—sleeping?”
