Kim Gordon’s No Home Record was a triumph. Gordon has proven since Sonic Youth’s dissolution that she not only has the work ethic and talent to stay relevant, but also still possesses that same experimental and pioneering wit she came into the music world with on Confusion Is Sex.
The New York-born mother of modern cool (or kool, if you prefer) has been touring nonstop since the ‘80s, both with Sonic Youth and her guitar-based noise project Body/Head alongside Bill Nace, but Gordon’s upcoming No Home Tour will be her first time touring as a headlining solo artist. The tour will take across Europe and North America with a stop at SXSW, where Gordon will deliver a Music Keynote Address alongside author Rachel Kushner.
Gordon’s influence is ever-present in the world of literature, fashion and art. Just recently, her “The Bonfire” exhibition at the 303 Gallery in NYC wrapped, and her 2015 memoir Girl In a Band was a revelatory and shocking piece of prose that stands next to Just Kids as one of the best artist-written memoirs of recent memory. It seems like there’s almost nothing Gordon can’t execute with precision and look like an expert when she lands.
