desmond was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He was inspired to be successful by the hand to mouth existence he led growing up with a single mom. When he was 8 years old he was taken to live with adopted parents at which time he was inspired to become a musician. They had a small but rich record collection and they sang, albeit not professionally. The church they took him to every week had a rich music program and it was there that he discovered that he could sing. Over the years he sang in and directed the youth choir and the church choir and directed the music program. He also toured with a few prominent gospel groups such as the Gospel Proclaimers and Sunshine Echoes. He later sang with the Kingston College Chapel Choir, the Diocesan Festival Choir and the National Chorale of Jamaica. He sang cabaret on Jamaica’s north coast hotel circuit and played principal roles in Jamaica’s Little Theatre Movement’s Pantomime Company.
