Description
You could call the Show Ponies a folk outfit, but you might be wrong. Then again, you might be
right. Fusing a plethora of musical and
literary influences, the Show Ponies have created for themselves a "sound". It’s not altogether definable, but they like
it that way, says Jason Harris, the groups guitarist and producer, “In the past
I’ve found that once you’ve put yourself in a box, it’s really difficult to get
the hell out.”
This year alone, the Los Angeles-based quintet have opened
for the likes of Billboard chart mainstays Rascal Flatts and Easton Corbin;
Texas country legend Robert Earl Keen and darlings of the indie-folk music
blogosphere, Elephant Revival. Add to
that a rigorous touring schedule and the release of their third
record, a wildly dedicated, even evangelical, fan base, and you might conclude
that the Show Ponies are having a pretty good time, to say the least.
A completely crowd-funded band, the Show Ponies just
recently finished a crowd-funding campaign in which their fans helped them
raise over double their initial goal, to the tune of $21,000. The resulting upcoming release, a five song
EP entitled, “Run For Your Life,” which features two collaborations with
virtuosic banjoist and world-class musician, Noam Pikelny, is available now.
