Two GOP Lawmakers Call on Jeff Sessions to Resign

In an op-ed penned by GOP lawmakers Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan for the Washington Examiner, both Republican representatives called for the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Meadows is a Republican representative from North Carolina and Freedom Caucus chair, and Jordan is an Ohio Republican representative and a member who sits on the oversight and judiciary committees in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Though the piece opens by stroking the ego of President Donald Trump, playing up his accomplishments and attempting to discredit the ongoing Russian collusion investigation, the article ends with the calling for a new Attorney General.

Meadows and Jordan are calling for Session’s resignation because it “appears he has no control at all of the premier law enforcement agency in the world.” You read that correctly. The representatives are not calling for his resignation due to Sessions’ failure to disclose contacts with Russian ambassadors or his morphing testimony throughout several congressional hearings.

Instead, they are critiquing Sessions because he doesn’t have ample control over the FBI, which operates under the jurisdiction of the Department of Justice, an institution that is supposed to operate independently from the White House.

Meadows and Jordan continue, “It is time for Sessions to start managing in a spirit of transparency to bring all of this improper behavior to light and stop further violations. If Sessions can’t address this issue immediately, then we have one final question needing an answer: When is it time for a new attorney general? Sadly, it seems the answer is now.”
