Jill Soloway to Produce Amazon Limited Series About Texas Women’s Rodeo

Jill Soloway (Transparent) and Andrea Sperling’s Topple Productions will produce a limited series for Amazon about Texas women’s rodeo

The series will be written by Cassie Pappas (Tyrant, Hostages) and will be set in a small Texas town circa 1942. While the men of the town are fighting in World War II, the women decide to form an all-women rodeo. As they rise to unexpected fame and fortune, they face new challenges along the way. It’s hard not to compare the premise to A League of Their Own, a film which told the true story of an all-women baseball team, also set during World War II. Sounds like Soloway’s show will be for fans of the 1992 classic, small-town drama and the weird world of Texas rodeo.

Soloway has won two Emmys for directing Transparent. In her latest Emmy acceptance speech, she shouted, “Topple the patriarchy,” which later served as the inspiration for the name Topple Productions. The production company has an overall deal with Amazon, though there is no word yet as to the release date of Soloway’s newest project.
