Epix’s Batman Prequel Pennyworth Casts Thomas Wayne and Its Titular Character

Back in May, Epix announced that it would be putting together Pennyworth, a TV series centered around Batman’s iconic butler, Alfred Pennyworth. There hasn’t been much in the way of news since then … until now. In a tweet Monday, Epix announced the casting of its titular character, as well as its Batdad, Thomas Wayne. Jack Bannon (above, right) will be playing Alfred, while Ben Aldridge (above, left) will be taking on the role of Wayne.

Bannon, coming from The Imitation Game and Fury, will take on the role of young Alfred. Per Deadline, this iteration of Alfred is fresh off his stint with the SAS, where he learned all the tricks he needs to help Batman. Pennyworth meets Wayne in 1960s London, where the two form a security company.

“Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet,” explains an Epix press release (per Polygon).
