The 10 Best Videogame Parody Videos

Videogame parodies have become a staple of Internet humor. Mostly drawing inspiration from classics like Mario and Zelda, parodies range in style, whether animated or live-action. Here are our 10 favorites.

10. Real Life Mario Kart
Millions have virtually navigated Mario and his gang around tracks full of ghosts, shells, stars, etc., but no one has experienced those races in the real world. Freddie Wong, creator of numerous hit internet videos, has addressed this obvious lack by creating a real-life Mario Kart race. – Nathan Spicer

9. “Mario” 2011 SXSW Film Bumper
From the mean streets of Austin, Texas comes this live action film bumper from SXSW 2011, “Mario.” The short film, which was shown before movies at this year’s SXSW, re-imagines Mario as disillusioned hipster tale of lost love and friendships.

8. Office Kombat!
From the diabolical minds of Seth Green and the Robot Chicken team, this parody of Mortal Kombat sees two office mates locked in a battle to the death over the due date of an assignment. Special appearance by Ryu from Street Fighter.

7. The Legend of Zelda (1987) Trailer
1986 was a big year for teen comedies, seeing the release of two of John Hughes’s most famous coming-of-age films, Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. 1986 was also a big year for videogames, as Nintendo owners everywhere were first introduced to Shigeru Miyamoto’s now-classic adventure series The Legend of Zelda. Both the Zelda games and Hughes’s films revolve around stories of youth, love, life, and coming of age, so we suppose it was only a matter of time before someone decided to see what would happen if the two combined. – Kirk Hamilton

6. The Fantastic Mr. Star Fox
From the fine funnymen at CollegeHumor comes this mashup of Star Fox with The Fantastic Mr. Fox. The result is somewhat an anomaly, equal parts Nintendo and Wes Anderson. Either way, it’s all parts awesome.
