Check Out the Lead Single from Rolling Blackouts C.F.’s Forthcoming Sub Pop Debut

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have just announced an EP titled The French Press, due out on March 10 via Sub Pop, their first release on the U.S. label. The Australian rock band also released the title single today.

The song boasts the same pithy, unpretentious storytelling that we know and love in Courtney Barnett. The track is a sort of long-distance love song, through the medium of a series of messages on a cantankerous answering machine. Though it shares this premise with “Such Great Heights,” it trades The Postal Service’s romantic humanism for an amusing cynicism. Singing over a cheery, Smiths-style guitar line, the singer’s insecurities slowly emerge from denial. The song essentially compares the disorientation one feels after a breakup with reading the coffee grounds in a french press.
