Ghostbusters: The Video Game Is Getting a Surprise HD Remaster

Today in unasked-for remasters of last-gen games (part of a series that includes Kirby’s Epic Yarn, DmC: Devil May Cry and Fahrenheit), the Playstation YouTube channel dropped a surprise trailer for a 4KHD remaster of 2009’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game. The remaster is scheduled for release sometime this year for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and the PC’s Epic Games Store, just in time for the 2020 debut of a new Ghostbusters movie set in the world of the original duology.

The game’s development was something of an open secret after the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee inadvertently leaked its existence. But besides that incident, information on the remaster has been scarce.

The new trailer continues that scarcity—it’s short on details, besides showing off the game’s improved graphics. Much appears the same from the fan-beloved original, like the use of the original cast for the ghostbusting quartet’s voice acting, the plot that acts as a sequel-of-sorts to the second movie in the series (and written by the original screenwriters!) and the presence of a new fifth ghostbuster who acts as the player avatar. Also, of course, there’s tons of Proton Pack-blasting action. The only confirmed addition to the original game is “enhanced textures and lighting.”
