HBO Got Hacked and Somebody is Releasing Game of Thrones Information

Like Netflix before it, HBO was evidently hacked today by a bunch of sad sacks, according to EW. And while releasing forthcoming episodes of Ballers and Room 104 is a crappy thing to do, circulating Game of Thrones script information is nigh unforgivable.

“HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information,” the network said in a statement. “We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.”

It’s believed that the hackers grabbed a whopping 1.5 terabytes of data from HBO and, on a related note, are shitty people. HBO wouldn’t confirm any specifics of the stolen content. Many reporters received an email last night from the alleged hackers threatening even more spoilers:

Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. HBO is falling./p>

Whether the group has obtained full episodes of HBO’s flagship show is unclear, but either way, join us in avoiding the internet altogether—with the exception of our review of last night’s episode, of course—until this situation can be resolved. We’ll send up a smoke signal or something when it’s safe to return.
