Kristen Stewart in Talks to Star in Clea DuVall’s Same-Sex Romantic Comedy Happiest Season

Kristen Stewart is in talks to star in Clea DuVall’s same-sex romantic comedy Happiest Season, as sources tell Variety. DuVall is on board to direct the film, which will mark her first time directing a studio feature, and also co-wrote the script with Mary Holland. DuVall made her directorial debut with the 2016 indie The Intervention, which won star Melanie Lynskey a Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival that year.

Happiest Season tells the story of a young woman whose plan to propose to her girlfriend at her family’s annual holiday party is foiled when she discovers that her partner hasn’t yet come out to her parents.

Hannah Minghella and Shary Shirazi will oversee the project for Sony’s TriStar Pictures. Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner will produce, with Jaclyn Huntling overseeing for Temple Hill, which also produced the coming-out romantic comedy Love, Simon.

Stewart made her directorial debut last year with Come Swim, a short film about gun control that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival featuring a score by St. Vincent. She is currently filming Elizabeth Banks’ Charlie’s Angels reboot for Sony, set for release in 2019, and also has the earthquake thriller Underwater and political thriller Against All Enemies on the slate for next year.
