Massive Movie Memorabilia Auction Will Include the Axe from The Shining and Monty Python’s Holy Hand Grenade

For the sixth year running, the movie-themed auction house Prop Store will be hosting an eye-opening event at the end of September, featuring the sale of a number of truly iconic movie props and pieces of costuming. Any one of these featured items would be impressive, but to have them all gathered in one place is something special. The auction will be held Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, with a free exhibition to the public in the days leading up to the event. As a whole, the auction is estimated to fetch around $7.3 million.
This year’s headlining items? Well, there’s the very axe used by Jack Nicholson to chop down the bathroom door in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, for one. That piece should pretty much be a holy grail collectible to lovers of Kubrick’s landmark horror film. And oh, while we’re on the topic of holy grails—also available at the auction is the actual “Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch” featured in 1975’s Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
But wait, there’s more. This year also plays host to the following top-tier items:
— Samuel L. Jackson’s purple-bladed lightsaber from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
