3 Mango Cocktails to Keep the Flu Away

The flu is at an all-time high this year, with more people than ever not only getting the disease, but also dying from it. I personally ended up fighting the beast last week, a fight that consisted predominantly of me taking dozens of fever-induced naps on my couch between doses of DayQuil and Emergen-C. If you haven’t already gotten a flu shot this year go get one (it’s not too late!). You can also do yourself a favor by loading up on vitamin C to boost your immune system.

Yes, you can do that with a good ol’ vitamin C pill or through an Emergen-C like I did when I was sick, or you can do yourself a solid and get your vitamin C in a fun way: through a cocktail.

Orange juice is always a go-to when it comes to making vitamin C-laced cocktails, and a Screwdriver or Mimosa certainly couldn’t hurt this time of year. The National Mango Board has another idea though: Mango Cocktails. They recently sent over these three beauties that we’re stoked to try:

Mango Michelada

Ingredients:
1/2 cup mango, pureed
2 tablespoons of lime juice
1 chilled Mexican beer
1 lime
Coarse salt
Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions: Combine mango puree, lime juice and beer. Rub a lime wedge, coat the rim with coarse salt. Fill glass 2/3 full with ice and then add mango mixture. Add in a few drops of hot sauce if desired.*


Mango Bellini

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon fresh mango pureed
4 ounces chilled Prosecco
1 chilled Champagne flute
1 mango peeled, pitted, and sliced for garnish

Instructions: Combine mango puree and chilled Prosecco (or any sparkling white wine) in each champagne glass and serve. Garnish with fresh mango slices on the rim.


Mango-Rita

Ingredients:
1 cup crushed ice
1 large ripe mango, peeled, pitted and diced
1/2 cup Tequila
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice (reserve one squeezed lime half to moisten glass rims)
Coarse salt

Instructions: Combine ice, mango, tequila and lime juice in a blender and puree until smooth. Moisten rims of 2 margarita glasses with reserved lime half and dip each glass rim in coarse salt. Pour Mango-rita into glasses.
