Starbucks Adds Ice Cream to Their Menu at Select Stores and It Looks Amazing

Just in time for spring, Starbucks is gearing up to serve its latest fantastic creation: Starbucks ice cream drinks.

The ice cream will be sold on Starbucks’ upscale Roastery Affogato menu at 10 select Reserve bar locations in Los Angeles, Boston and Washington, D.C. Less-fancy versions of the Affogato menu will also be available at 100 store locations in Orange County, Calif.

The new line will be made in collaboration with Mora Iced Creamery, which is known for its richness of flavors and high-quality ingredients. Co-owners Ana Orselli and Jerry Perez opened the Creamery in 2005, and it quickly grew. When Starbucks showed up on their caller I.D, Perez said he thought he must have left his wallet at his local Starbucks. When they realized the mega-coffee chain wanted to collaborate, it was very emotional. “For us to come to this country as immigrants and now get a call from Starbucks, all I could think was ‘Wow,’” said Perez.

On Starbucks’ website, they explained the power of the “Affogato-style experience”:

Translated from Italian as “drowning,” the new Affogato-style experiences take locally-crafted Mora ice cream and then drown with Starbucks Reserve espresso. The simplicity of pouring hot espresso over cold ice cream not only offers a rich creaminess at first taste, but exposes the nuanced flavors unique to each espresso.

The Affogato menu will include three signature ice cream beverages: the Classic, the House and the Shakerato. The Classic is simple, with two spots of espresso poured over a scoop of ice cream. The House kicks things up a notch with a touch of cinnamon and demerera syrup. The wildest of the three, the Shakerato, is made with espresso shots shaken to “an icy froth,” poured over ice cream and finished with vanilla syrup and a mint sprig for garnish.

In addition to the aforementioned three, the Roastery menu will also include Cold Brew Floats, which are basically just their signature Cold Brew poured over ice cream—though a seasonal version will include mocha powder and orange-piloncillo syrup. The final addition to the new menu is the Cold Brew Malted Shake, with consists of ice cream, malt and bourbon barrel-aged bitters. Throw in some actual bourbon and we’re sold.
