Get an Inside Look at the Most Diverse Small Town in America in New Clarkston Trailer

A new trailer has arrived for Clarkston, a forthcoming indie documentary about the most diverse square-mile in the United States, the small town of Clarkston, Ga. The film follows three refugees and a former member of the Ku Klux Klan as they grapple with their identities and their relationships with the town of Clarkston, all while America is experiencing its own crisis of identity.

The film’s working title is Clarkston: Mother of Exiles. It’s currently in post-production, and the team behind it have launched a fundraising effort through the film-centric crowdfunding platform Seed & Spark. They have already raised more than half of their initial goal of $5,000 for music licensing as of this writing, with 28 days left to hit the mark. More long-term fundraising goals include an extra $6,000 for sound design and a final $6,000 for color correction.

Clarkston was produced and directed by Erin Bernhardt, whose first film Imba Means Sing, about the African Children’s Choir, arrived in 2015 to glowing praise. Din Blankenship served as co-producer, and Mohua Thakurta was the assistant director. Danielle Bernstein is taking over editing duties for the film, and Joseph East served as the director of photography.

If fundraising efforts continue to succeed, the team hopes to release Clarkston: Mother of Exiles in early 2020. Check out the trailer and learn more about the film here.
