Paste: Well, Whitney Houston came out in the ’80s, too. Speaking of that unapologetic, emotional, pouring-forth … she was one of the great ones for that.
Thompson: Right. And when people think back to the ’80s, I don’t think that they remember that it was such a great time for female singers. Of course, Whitney Houston was incomparable in what she could do with her voice. She did all those great hits then … right? All of her hits were in the ’80s, weren’t they?
