Enjoy This Time-Traveling Ryan Reynolds in First Trailer for Netflix’s The Adam Project
Photos via NetflixFrom the twisted minds of Free Guy, comes the next big-budget Ryan Reynolds project for Netflix—hopefully one that doesn’t send us into an apoplectic rage, like Red Notice did. The Adam Project is a sci-fi action film with a family feel to it, aping heavy 1980s Amblin-era sci-fi vibes that evoke both Spielberg and the likes of The Last Starfighter. The film, premiering on Netflix on March 11, 2022, dropped its first trailer today, which you can view below.
Ryan Reynolds plays Adam, a man who travels back in time via what looks like a futuristic fighter jet, in order to contact his younger self as a child. For whatever reason, it seems that Adam needs his own help to travel even further back in time in order to confront his deceased father, played by Mark Ruffalo. At least, “confront” is the word used by the official synopsis, although the trailer doesn’t make it seem as if there’s any particular animosity here. The film also stars Walker Scobell as the young version of Adam, along with Jennifer Garner, Zoe Saldaña, Catherine Keener and Alex Mallari Jr. Paradoxes would appear to abound in the plot, as it sounds like Adam’s ultimate goal is to prevent the discovery of time travel in the first place, in order to avert some kind of terrible future. Or in other words, standard pop sci-fi stuff.
Regardless, there’s certainly been a fair budget spent here, and the overall tone of visual bombast is certainly reminiscent of Free Guy, which makes sense given that this film is also directed by Free Guy’s Shawn Levy. Check out the first trailer below for your daily dose of Reynolds smarm.
