Tom Cruise Has Some Flight Troubles in the First Trailer for The Mummy

Following the premiere of a short trailer tease that debuted late last week, Tom Cruise’s The Mummy reboot has released its first full-length trailer. The reboot is set to follow a group of archaeologists who awaken an evil spirit.

This evil spirit is an ancient princess, Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella), who awakens after thousands of years to take revenge on those who kept her from her destiny. Cruise plays one of these archaeologists, taking over for Brendan Fraser, who starred in three Mummy films in 1999, 2001 and 2008.

The trailer for this film has a grittier tone than those installments, and it’s filled with action, included an extended sequence involving a plane crash. You know how Tom Cruise loves planes.

The Mummy also stars Russell Crowe, Courtney B. Vance, Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson. Alex Kurtzman directed the project, which is set to hit theaters this summer as the first installment in Universal’s planned monster shared universe.

The Mummy hits theaters on June 9, 2017. Until then, check out the first trailer above.
