Watch the Gorgeous Trailer for Werner Herzog’s Salt and Fire

Werner Herzog’s films are existential, to say the least, and his latest looks no different. In the trailer for Salt and Fire, we see Michael Shannon and Gael García Bernal having a series of dark and weighty conversations as tense music creates an ominous tone.

Salt and Fire is actually a thriller about a super volcano. Veronica Ferres also stars in the film as a scientist trying to prevent the cataclysmic event from occurring. Herzog often chooses to make films about the environment, and Salt and Fire looks to be the latest example. Nature is striking back.

Salt and Fire will premiere in France this December (the trailer is in English, but with French subtitles), with an American release date sometime next year.
