John Prine Documentary Picked up at Sony Pictures Classics

Sony Pictures Classics has picked up a new documentary about singer-songwriter John Prine, according to Variety. The film is currently in post-production and is tentatively titled John Prine: Hello in There. Sony is planning on showing the documentary in theaters, but no solid release date has been set.

The film charts Prine’s journey as a songwriter from his first songs all the way through his present-day resurgence. Filmmakers Zachary Fuhrer and Patrick Doyle began filming with Prine as he prepared to release his 2018 album The Tree of Forgiveness, which was his first album of new material since 2005’s Fair and Square.

John Prine: Hello in There was made with the support of Prine and his family, and includes interviews with young artists influenced by him, including Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson and Margo Price. Fuhrer and Doyle co-wrote the film, with Fuhrer directing and Doyle producing. The pair also partnered with RadicalMedia for production on the film.
