Vetiver Unveil “To Who Knows Where,” the First Single from New Album Up On High, Out in November

In the press photo given to journalists, Vetiver lead singer Andy Cabic is laying down in a hammock alongside his dog. Few images could better capture the feeling of listening to the band’s new single, “To Who Knows Where,” the first offering from the long-running San Francisco band’s new album, their seventh to date. Up On High, due out on Nov. 1 via Mama Bird Recording Co., is their first since 2015’s Complete Strangers.

“To Who Knows Where” is the culmination of everything we’ve long loved about Vetiver, complete with a woodsy acoustic guitar riff, Cabic’s calming whisper-vocals and lovely, longing lyrics. Now, 15 years after their self-titled debut, Vetiver isn’t trying to change things up the way they did on the looser and baggier The Errant Charm from 2011. Instead, they’re further perfecting their rootsier side, harkening back a bit further towards 2009’s Tight Knit instead. It’s a gorgeous taste of what’s soon to come.

The album art, shown below, depicts a rainbow-colored mountain, presumably in the Sierra Nevada, and it’s hard not to imagine yourself marveling at that view when hitting play. It’s no surprise that Up On High was recorded in this sort of scenery, tracked in spring at a friend’s house in California’s high desert. “To Who Knows Where” soundtracks this world, one seemingly a thousand miles away from the chaos and politics of modern American city life.

Vetiver will also embark on a world tour in support of the new record, their first in four years. Find those dates below, along with the visuals for “To Who Knows Where.”
