Support for Kavanaugh at Historic Low, According to New Reuters Poll

Opposition to President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has grown in the past few weeks, according to a new report from Reuters/Ipsos. Following a sexual assault allegation from California university lecturer Christine Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh’s approval ratings dipped to 31 percent, the lowest ever support for a Supreme Court nominee.

The Sept. 11-17 poll found that 36 percent of adults did not want Kavanaugh in the Supreme Court. Thirty-three percent did not know, and 31 percent still supported him despite the allegations. Thirty-three percent of women opposed him, up seven percentage points from previous polling. Sixty-four percent of Republicans still supported him.

While the Senate gears up for a hearing in which Ford will testify against Kavanaugh, President Trump has doubled down on his support for the judge. He said on Wednesday that it would be hard for him “to imagine anything happened.”
