The bombshell we were all expecting finally dropped today, as ABC just reported that “a source representing this matter has disclosed to ABC News that the law firm handling the case for [Michael] Cohen is not expected to represent him going forward,” and that Cohen is now “likely to cooperate with federal prosecutors in New York, sources said.”
This comes two days before Judge Kimba Wood’s deadline for his legal team to complete a privilege review of over 3.7 million documents collected by the FBI when they raided Cohen’s offices on April 9th, and one day after uber-conservative insider Gabriel Sherman’s report in Vanity Fair that contained this nugget:
Trump allies view the legal cloud hanging over Trump’s former attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen, as at least as ominous as the obstruction investigation. According to a source close to Cohen, Cohen has told friends that he expects to be arrested any day now. (Reached for comment, Cohen wrote in a text message, “Your alleged source is wrong!”) The specter of Cohen flipping has Trump advisers on edge. “Trump should be super worried about Michael Cohen,” a former White House official said. “If anyone can blow up Trump, it’s him.”
As to why Cohen may feel compelled to cooperate with federal prosecutors, only Michael Cohen can say—but Ken White, a defense lawyer who makes a living off battling the government, gave us one idea.
15 attorneys, at these firms, working “around the clock” (let’s be conservative and say 14 hours a day), even if mostly young associates, is likely burning over $100,000 a day. A DAY.https://t.co/CqngHbfeNX
