Lenovo Refreshes Its VR-Ready Legion Gaming Towers at Gamescon

At Gamescon, Lenovo announced a refresh to its Legion Y-series gaming towers. The Legion Y920 is Lenovo’s flagship desktop gaming experience, followed by the Legion Y720 and the entry level Legion Y520. All refreshed models come with support for Intel’s 7th Generation Core i7 processor alongside either AMD or Nvidia graphics, making them VR-compatible and Oculus certified.

All three desktop gaming towers come in Onyx Black along with Lenovo’s Legion red accents.

At the top of the pack is the flagship Legion Y920 tower, a top-end system with support for either Intel’s 7th generation quad-core Core i7-7700K or Core i5-7600K processors. The system supports Nvidia’s GeForce GTX-1080 with 8GB video RAM, 1070 with 8GB RAM or 1060 with 6B video RAM. Additionally, if you’d rather not use Nvidia for discrete graphics, you can also configure the Legion Y920 with AMD’s Radeon RX480 with 8GB of video RAM.

Other features include dual storage with two 512GB PCIe RAID0 SSD or a 4TB HDD. Up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM can be equipped on the system to power either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro. There is Thunderbolt 3 support over the USB Type-C port.

The tower measures 430 × 418 x 190mm and there is Dolby Atmos support for virtual surround sound. The Dolby Atmos technology initially debuted on PCs with Huawei’s MateBook X this summer, but it looks like that exclusive partnership was short lived.

The Y920 comes with overclockable Corsair Vengeance LPX memory and will be available beginning October at a $1,999 starting price.

The Legion Y720 is a mid-range gaming tower that supports either a 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700 or Intel Core i5-7400 processor. It doesn’t come with the unlocked K SKU, but you’re still getting VR support that tops out with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 GPU or an AMD Radeon RX 570. It also supports Nvidia’s 1050Ti GPU as well.

The system can be configured, like the flagship, with 64GB DDR4 RAM. Up to a 512GB SSD or 2TB HDD can be added and Windows 10 Home is the only OS option here. The system measures 430 × 418 x 190mm, which is the same case as the Legion Y920. However, the Y920 has a removable see-through side panel, whereas the side panel for the Y720 is solid.

Dolby Premium Audio support replaces the premium Dolby Atmos for audio on the Y720. The Y720 will start at $999 and will be available in October.

The Legion Y520 fills Lenovo’s entry-level gaming-centric desktop PC space and comes in a tower form factor that measure 467.8 × 402.4 × 182mm. The gaming rig comes can be configured with Intel’s 7th Generation Core i7-7700, Intel Core i5-7400 or Intel Core i3-7100 processors. Windows 10 Home is the standard OS and users have a choice between Nvidia’s GTX 1060 graphics with 3GB video RAM or the 1050Ti. If you prefer AMD, you can also choose the Radeon RX560 instead of Nvidia’s offerings.

The system can be outfitted with up to 16GB DDR4 RAM, 128GB SSD or 2TB HDD and comes with support for Dolby Audio Premium. The Y520 will start at $899 when it becomes available this October.
