Bill Nye Partners With Netflix for New Show Featuring Science, Bow Ties

TV News Bill Nye

Bill Nye is returning to the small screen. The famed scientist, whose PBS show Bill Nye the Science Guy is still his best-known work, will team up with Netflix for Bill Nye Saves the World, according to IndieWire.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads: “Each episode will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.”

Nye’s new show will be a continuation of a journey he began in 1993 with The Science Guy, a show that attempted to make science a more approachable topic for people of all ages. Nye’s bow ties became his signature, and he still wears them to this day. Said Nye in a statement:

Since the start of the Science Guy show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science,” . “Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.

The partnership between Nye and Netflix is a perfectly natural one. The show will give Nye a platform to argue for science, while it gives Netflix another throwback akin to what they did with Fuller House. Netflix has promised the show will feature Nye’s “unfiltered style,” along with experiments, demonstrations and special guests.

The show will be run by Michael Naidus, with Gil Goldschein and Julie Pizzi as executive producers along with Naidus. Mike Drucker will be the show’s head comedy writer, and astronomer Phil Plait will be head science writer. Bill Nye Saves the World is set to premiere in the spring of 2017.
