Netflix Confirms Production of New Episodes of Making a Murderer
Images via NetflixThe saga of Steven Avery continues as Netflix has announced that production on new episodes of Making a Murderer has begun.
The new episodes of the docu-series will follow how the legal teams of the convicted murderer Avery and his co-defendant and nephew Brendan Dassey continue to challenge their convictions while the state seeks to uphold their life sentences.
In 1985, Avery was sentenced to 32 years in prison for rape, but he was later exonerated after 18 years of incarceration when DNA testing proved him innocent. Avery was pursuing a wrongful conviction lawsuit when he was arrested for murder in 2005, a killing he claims he was framed for.
The show’s next installment will also offer an exclusive look at Avery’s new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, as well as Dassey’s legal team of Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin. Like the first season, there will be intimate access to the families and characters involved with the case.
“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series,” said Making a Murderer creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos. “The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold”
The first season of Making a Murderer acquired six Emmy Award nominations, so we have high expectations for the follow-up. As of now, the show’s second season is without an episode count or expected release date.
