Adrien Brody to Join the Cast of Peaky Blinders

Adrien Brody (The Pianist, King Kong) will join the greasy-haired, tired-eye cast of the hit BBC-produced, Netflix-streaming drama Peaky Blinders. The show follows the incredible (and incredibly violent) rise of the Shelby family in post-WWI England. It’s chock-full of government corruption, rival gangs, betrayals, revenge plots, bloody knuckles, trendy haircuts, anachronistic indie rock, stylish cigarette smoking and now, Oscar-winning actor Brody.

As filming for the fourth season begins in Liverpool, Brody made the announcement by posting a photo on Twitter. Wearing a brown suit and bowler hat while clutching a bottle of booze in a smoke-filled room, Brody certainly looked at home in the Peaky Blinders world. He also added the caption, “Uh oh, here’s a sneaky peaky of me being cheeky… very excited to come and play with the immensely talented gang…” This caption is slightly less gangster, but the phrase “sneaky peaky of me being cheeky” did make us choke on our coffee. See Brody’s Twitter post below.

While we don’t know much about Brody’s new role as of yet, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight did tell Deadline that he thought Brody was the perfect addition. “He genuinely was the actor in my head when I wrote the part. I’m sure he will be a formidable presence in the world of the Peaky Blinders.” We are certainly looking forward to witnessing Brody’s formidable-ness.

As for the plot of season four, Deadline reports that it will begin on Christmas Eve. Tommy (aka the great Cillian Murphy) receives a mysterious letter that reveals the Shelbys are in danger of “annihilation.” As the enemy surrounds them (Which enemy? The Russians? The government? It could be so many different groups at this point—the Shelbys aren’t exactly good at making friends), Tommy flees the scene of the crime and ends up back on the streets of Small Heath, Birmingham. Presumably, it is at this dark hour that he meets up with sneaky peaky cheeky Brody.

The fourth season of Peaky Blinders is set to air on Netflix sometime later this year. In the meantime, don’t miss Paste’s article “Cillian Murphy of Peaky Blinders is Giving the Best Performance on TV Right Now.”

Also … we’ve been waiting a long time for the opportunity to post this video of the best day of Adrien Brody’s life—enjoy below.
