What We Do in the Shadows Will Get a Spin-Off TV Show

TV News What We Do in the Shadows

What We Do in the Shadows will be returning, this time on the small screen. The 2014 vampire comedy was a hit with critics, and now a spin-off titled Paranormal Event Response Unit is coming to television from writer-directors Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The TV show will be a small-screen extension of the film.

The show will focus on two police officers, Mike and Karen, who specialize in problems related to supernatural phenomena. The series will be six episodes long. Waititi’s other directing credits include Hunt for the Wilderpeople and the forthcoming Marvel film Thor: Ragnarok. What We Do in the Shadows stars Waititi and Clement, along with Jonathan Brugh and Ben Fransham. The four men play vampires living in the city of Wellington who share a house.

Waititi has also discussed the possibility of a movie sequel for What We Do in the Shadows called We’re Wolves that focuses on Rhys Darby and Stuart Rutherford, two actors whose characters who played a minor role in the original film as werewolves, but would take center stage in the sequel. There’s been no further word on this project, and Waititi seems rather busy at the moment with the Hulk.

Paranormal Event Response Unit is a spin-off in the truest sense, focusing on different characters within the same world. Still, if it manages to blend the wits of Waititi and Clement as What We Do in the Shadows did, it will be well worth your time.
