Dungeons 2 Gets an Official Release Date; Debuts Trailer
Those who played the Dungeon Keeper series in the late ‘90s remember it fondly. The strategy-based game from Bullfrog Productions had players managing a dungeon and protecting it from heroes intent on attacking various monsters and stealing treasure. The game had an engaging God perspective which allowed you to interact with the creatures tasked to do your bidding. When Realmforge Studios announced a successor in 2011, fans of the original quickly hopped on board the bandwagon. Unfortunately, the game proved a disappointment by not adapting many of Dungeon Keeper’s original features and cloaking the popular 1997 game with microtransactions to lure in paying customers.
Now comes the new trailer for the sequel to the 2011 title. But where the other game failed, Dungeons 2 promises to improve. According to early reports last year, the gameplay for this new take on the classic series is the spiritual successor Dungeon Keeper deserves. From the looks of the trailer, we’re willing to say those reports may be spot on. The game will play much like the original, with players taking over the role of a dungeon master. You excavate the surrounding area, protect it from invaders and recruit an army of orcs, goblins, trolls and naga. From there, the game deviates from the its predecessors. Once you’ve decided you’ve had enough of heroes storming your playground, you can take the fight to them. You will be able to leave through the hell gate to an above ground level to engage the enemy.
In addition to the new level of battle, a new four-player multiplayer mode has been added. Each player will have his or her own dungeon with a connected Overworld. Everyone will fight in death matches and king of the hill games. You may also invade your opponents’ dungeons, at a price. Each person’s domain gives them access to their own distinct abilities and spellbook. Enter at your own risk!
Dungeons 2 will be available on PC, Mac and SteamOS on April 24. The first gameplay trailer can be viewed above.
