Insomniac’s Spider-Man Game Seems Likely to Release This Year

Marvel Digital Media VP Ryan Penagos let slip on a recent live-stream that Insomniac’s PS4-exclusive Spider-Man game is supposed to come out this year.

In the stream (captured by Reddit user GamingSince95), Penagos said, “And there’s even more on the horizon for 2017, like Spider-Man coming to Playstation 4 and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC.”

It should be noted that Penagos does not work directly on Marvel’s games and that Insomniac almost immediately backpedaled after reports of his comment made the rounds online.

Don’t be discouraged, spider-fans, as the developer’s comments absolutely do not rule out a 2017 release for the game. It’s very likely Insomniac simply doesn’t want to spoil their E3 “surprise” of a gameplay demo and official title/release date announcement—though, to be fair, there’s always the chance that the game really is in trouble development-wise, which would make Penagos’ comment kind of rude, wouldn’t it?

In the meantime, let’s keep our fingers crossed for the two-ish months remaining until E3. In case you somehow haven’t seen the game’s announcement trailer (notably the only look we’ve gotten at the game), you can check that out below.
