Stardew Valley Arrives on PS Vita in May

Good things come to those who wait: Stardew Valley launches on the PlayStation Vita May 22, according to developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone. Announced today, May 14, on the game’s blog, the release date for the PS Vita version is something that Barone calls “perhaps the most common question I get asked.”

Stardew Valley is a popular farming simulator/RPG, created solely by Barone back in February of 2016. The game released to generally favorable reviews, holding an 89 Metascore on Metacritic. The PS Vita is the latest in a long list of consoles for the indie darling, having previously released on PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.

The best part about today’s announcement is that it’s cross-buy along with the PS4—buy one version, get the other for free. For years, one of the PS Vita’s biggest selling points has been the cross-buy compatible games that allow players to own a copy on both systems for the price of one. This is great news for gamers on the go who either already own the game on console or own both systems.

The initial announcement for the PS Vita port came back in January 2017. Unfortunately, PS Vita players will have to miss out on the upcoming multiplayer beta, as it won’t be coming to the handheld. Still, it’s nice to see the PS Vita get some love, even if Sony likes to pretend it doesn’t exist. The little console that could has proven to be a great space for indie gems.
