Watch Red, White & Blue: The Officially Unofficial U.S. World Cup Song

Over on the Fusion network (just click random numbers on your remote control and eventually it will appear), The Soccer Gods—aka Nando Vila and Simon Carr—are offering some irreverent soccer coverage in a smart bit of counter-programming to ESPN’s World Cup fare (both Fusion and ESPN are owned by Viacom).

To grab a little attention, Vila and Carr recorded “Red, White & Blue,” an officially unofficial World Cup song for the U.S. national team. And it’s not half bad, in a tongue in cheek kind of way. Instead of the the usual generic patriotism of World Cup songs, Vila and Carr hit us with some beautifully specific U.S. Men’s National Team references about losing to Iran in ‘98, Dos a Cero and that Torsten Frings’ handball.

Even better, “Red, White & Blue” is framed by the story of Alexi Lalas, who appears to have lost his faith in the national team only to have it restored by the song of The Soccer Gods. And here’s the kicker: Even though “Red, Wite & Blue” has its tongue firmly in cheek, it’s still catchy enough that I guarantee you catch yourself humming it just a few minutes after clicking play above.
