Here’s a First Look at Season Two of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events

Netflix announced the renewal of A Series of Unfortunate Events for season two in March, and we haven’t heard much about the show since … until a truly unfortunate turn of events occurred today when Netflix released pictures from the forthcoming season, subjecting us to the adversities that ensue for the Baudelaire orphans. Look away!

Season two will pick up right where the first left off, starting with The Austere Academy, the fifth book, which finds Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes) and Sunny (Presley Smith) navigating their way through the halls of the Prufrock Preparatory School, where they meet the loathsome Carmelita Spats, portrayed by Kitana Turnbull. The forthcoming season follows the children’s misadventures until the ninth book, The Carnivorous Carnival.

Among the new photos is a preview of Carmelita, as well as moments from The Ersatz Elevator that feature a disguised Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) with Esme Squalor (Lucy Punch), a temporary guardian of the orphans and “the city’s sixth most important financial advisor.” Also included is a sneak peek of Olaf’s evil troupe in The Hostile Hospital. See the photos below, and gear yourselves up for the premiere of season two next spring.
