In the meantime, though, Audible has released a video detailing some of Offerman’s behind-the-scenes work on Connecticut Yankee, which involves a look at him doing some of the actual narration, along with some of the gifted comic/actor/writer’s commentary on his love of Mark Twain. Says Offerman: “Mark Twain’s voice is so delightfully puckish. He takes his protagonist and puts them in a situation with other people, and has such a great sense of humor about how his protagonist manipulates those other people using his cleverness.” You can watch the full video below (and you can check out an exclusive audio clip here).
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, if you weren’t assigned that particular story in grade school, is the story of a 19th century engineer who is magically transported back to the middle ages, where he uses the advantages of a modern technological mind to convince the locals that he’s some sort of magical being. Like all Twain stories, it’s equal parts warmly humorously and thoughtfully satirical.
