Brett Gelman is Done with Adult Swim Over Their Treatment of Women and Alt-Right Show

Brett Gelman, whose Dinner series of specials have been some of the best (and darkest) shows on Adult Swim the last few years, announced via Twitter last night that he will no longer work with the network, Splitsider reports. He attributed both Adult Swim’s treatment of women and their support of comedian Sam Hyde’s show Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace, whose alt-right fans launched an anti-Semitic harassment campaign against a critic from Buzzfeed, for his decision.

Gelman has had three specials air on Adult Swim, Dinner with Friends with Brett Gelman and Friends, Dinner with Family with Brett Gelman and Brett Gelman’s Family and Dinner in America with Brett Gelman. The last of those three doesn’t pull any punches in its exploration of race relations in America; in an interview with Paste before it aired last summer, Gelman said, “We’re fortunate enough that Adult Swim let us do this because we also don’t think there’s a lot of places on TV that would just give us carte blanche to go for it on a subject like this.” He was also a regular on the Adult Swim show Eagleheart, which ran for three seasons.

Paste will be talking to Gelman today about his decision, and has reached out to Adult Swim for comment.
