Charlotte Pence is “All For” John Oliver’s Marlon Bundo Book

As Amazon struggles to keep up with demand for John Oliver and Jill Twiss’s children’s book chronicling the romance between the Pences’ pet bunny, Marlon Bundo, and another boy bunny, a member of the Pence family issued a surprisingly supportive response to the same-sex supportive work.

During an appearance on Fox Business, Vice President Mike Pence’s daughter, Charlotte Pence, who authored the original Bundo book, stated she was “all for” Oliver’s offering. “I mean, I think you know, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery in a way,” said Pence, adding, “in all seriousness, his book is contributing to charities that I think we can all get behind. We have two books giving to charities that are about bunnies so I’m all for it really.”

Charlotte’s mother, Second Lady Karen Pence, who provided illustrations for the book, was also present during the interview but remained noticeably silent when host Maria Bartiromo’s brought up the better Bundo book.

The Second Daughter’s comments contradict the response from her publisher, Regnery Publishing, following the surprise announcement of their severely stiff competition. “It’s unfortunate that anyone would feel the need to ridicule an educational children’s book and turn it into something controversial and partisan,” said “The Leader in Conservative Books” in a statement to CNN on Monday.

While Charlotte Pence appeared to have no issue with the release of A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, she did defend her father, whose history of supporting discriminatory legislation, organizations and practices against the queer community inspired the creation of Oliver’s Bundo book. When asked what the largest misconception about her father during an appearance on The View, Pence responded, “It’s gotta be that he has animosity or hatred towards anyone.”

During that same appearance, she hinted that the titular bunny, and maybe some others in the Pence family, held a more centrist political leaning. “I think he kind of hops down the middle of the aisle. He brings people together.”

Twiss’s A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo remains atop the Amazon Best Sellers list as the sold out book continues to take orders as they begin a second printing. Pence’s Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President remains at number four.
