Stephen Colbert’s Alter-Ego is Back to Give Us “The WERD” on Trump’s Budget Cuts

Stephen Colbert’s conservative alter-ego “Stephen Colbert” returned on last night’s The Late Show. We get the feeling that “Colbert” has been lurking below the surface for some time now, just waiting to jump in on the madness that is our current administration. It seems Trump’s proposed 2018 budget cuts were the final push to get “Colbert” back on stage—watch above.

In the segment, “Colbert” revives his beloved Colbert Report segment as the lawsuit-dodging “The WERD” to discuss Trump’s proposed budget cuts. He addresses the elimination of the Meals on Wheels program and the lack of empathy Budget Director Mick Mulvaney ( the “49-year old temp”) feels toward hungry children. He also discourages (which, of course, means he encourages) viewers to contact their congressmen.

The whole clip made us feel pretty nostalgic for “Colbert.” The fact that The Late Show host revived the character makes us think he’s missing the old blithering, exaggerated conservative pundit, too.

You can find your local congressman through house.gov, and you can make a donation to Meals on Wheels here. You can also donate to Network for Good, a nonprofit dedicated to providing after-school care for kids through a variety of programs.
