The Simpsons Writers Are Sorry They Predicted a Trump Presidency

Comedy News The Simpsons

In 2000, The Simpsons did an episode titled “Bart to the Future,” in which we get a glimpse at the family’s future. In this future, Lisa is President of the United States and she mentions, in a quick throwaway line, that her administration has inherited a “budget crunch” from “President Trump.” Well, now that that joke has become reality, The Simpsons writers are sorry.

Last night’s variation of Bart’s classic chalkboard gag saw Bart writing, “Being right sucks.” And just in case you thought it was perhaps a reference to something else that the show has predicted over the years, the official Simpsons Twitter account posted the short clip along with the caption, “The Simpsons updates its 2000 prediction of a Trump Presidency…”

The Simpsons has produced so many episodes that it’s hard to escape its influence. The show has predicted a number of things, including the invention of autocorrect and smartwatches, but this is one time they wish they weren’t right all the time.

You can see the chalkboard gag in the tweet embedded below.
