ComiXology Unlimited Announces Comings and Goings for September

ComiXology Unlimited lets subscribers read the first couple of issues or volumes from hundreds of different comic book series for a monthly price. It’s like the Netflix of digital comics, if Netflix only gave you the first couple of seasons of a show.

The service doesn’t include Marvel or DC, who do their own things when it comes to subscription comic services (Marvel Unlimited and jack squat, respectively). Instead, ComiXology Unlimited features books from Image, Dark Horse, IDW and other smaller publishers. Though met with skepticism when it was first announced because of confusion over how already underpaid and overworked writers and artists would be compensated, the service has proven successful in convincing readers to buy more comics from publishers that aren’t one of the Big Two.

All that said, there are some cool, non-traditional comics being added to the service starting today that should add some spice to your comic book reading if you’re starting to tire of capes and cowls.

This month we’ll be getting: Mass Effect: Invasion, set between the second and third games in the sci-fi series; B.P.R.D. 1945, a prequel story in the Hellboy universe; and Fear Agent, which you probably didn’t read during its initial run but should have, among others.

This month also marks the first time in the service’s young life (it launched in May) that books are leaving the service. Among them are Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8, written by Joss Whedon in addition to cache of amazing writers like Drew Goddard and Brian K. Vaughan, and Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
