The Wasp Is in Action in the First Ant-Man and the Wasp Teaser

Marvel’s Ant-Man arrived in 2015 as something of a breath of fresh air for the MCU. Rather than the world-ending alien invasions seen in The Avengers or Thor entries, the realm of Ant-Man was one on a more intimate, and yes—smaller—level. The film was unabashedly a comedy first and superhero yarn second, even moreso than Guardians of the Galaxy, and it wore its heart on its sleeve. The perfectly cast Paul Rudd was no doubt key to its success, portraying Scott Lang as a career criminal with a desire to make good, sucked into events much bigger (and tinier) than he intended to get wrapped up with. But that’s how you put together a good superhero origin story, right?

Now, after appearing memorably in Captain America: Civil War, it’s time for Ant-Man to shine again, except this time he’s got backup. Flanked by Evangeline Lilly’s The Wasp, it’s safe to say that Lang and Hope Pym, the daughter of Ant-Man suit-inventor Hank Pym, will make a formidable fighting duo. It certainly appears so in the just-released first teaser trailer for the film, which you can see above.

It’s immediately clear that the sequel hasn’t strayed far from the comedic roots of the first film. There are sequences that echo the confrontation between Ant-Man and Yellowjacket, especially the bit where The Wasp uses Pym Particles to throw a giant, human-sized Pez dispenser at a foe. There are also glimpses of what appears to be a new villain, as well as the old-school Marvel character Ghost, an ‘80s Iron Man rogue.

Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters relatively soon, on July 6, 2018.
