Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds follows the mother-daughter duo throughout their lives, chronicling their estrangement in the 1970s and 1980s, their reconciliation a decade later, and how close they became in their final years.
Fisher passed away on Dec. 27 after suffering cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles four days earlier. The next day, Reynolds had a stroke and died. In light of these tragic events, HBO made the decision to move up the premiere date from March to January.
“It’s a love story,” said HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins. “Carrie wanted to make Bright Lights for Debbie and Debbie wanted to make it for Carrie.”
Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds will premiere on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. EST.
