David Harbour May Play Cable in Deadpool Sequel

According to TheWrap, David Harbour is being eyed to possibly play Cable in Deadpool 2, after Fox has reportedly screen-tested Harbour for the the role. Harbour is most well-known nowadays for playing Chief Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, launching him into the stratosphere of popularity.

In Marvel’s comics, Cable is a time-traveling, telekinetic mutant with a cybernetic eye and robotic arm. He is the adult son of the X-Men animated series favorite (and Bryan Singer’s least-favorite) mutant, Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. Most of his notable appearances with other notable Marvel characters result in his time-traveling backwards to prevent the future apocalypse that he’s familiar with from happening. How will this integrate with Deadpool? Well, they had a run of comics together where they formed an unlikely duo, so we may be in for a kind of buddy movie as the sequel, which sounds perfect.

Deadpool 2 recently found a director in David Leitch, co-director of John Wick, after Tim Miller left the sequel over creative differences. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, since it was nearly miraculous that the original Deadpool happened at all. It would be a tough burden to bear such a success the first time and an anticipated sequel when it took so long to get these movies made. We don’t envy Leitch’s job.

Deadpool 2 is currently in pre-production, targeting a 2018 release.
