A Man Sues His Date For Texting During Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Director James Gunn Weighs In
Image via Marvel StudiosA gracious Marvel fan, Brandon Vezmar, recently spent a whopping $17.31 on his date’s ticket for a 3D showing of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, presumably to demonstrate how chivalry is not dead—you’ve just got to find the right man. Much like the knights of old, a true gentleman always upgrades to a 3D showing of popular comic book movies.
Unfortunately, the 37-year-old Texan’s date was blind to her moviegoing partner’s gallant efforts, and she proceeded to spend the entire movie texting her friend. Disgusted—and maybe feeling a little betrayed—that his date didn’t bother to fully appreciate the highly acclaimed film, Vezmar decided to defend his honor in small claims court.
Speaking with the Statesman, Vezmar explained, “It was kind of a first date from hell” and that texting during movies was, “like one of [his] biggest pet peeves.” Vezmar is only asking he be returned his $17.31 so he and his unidentified female companion may go peaceably along their separate paths. His petition to the claims court included how texting is a “direct violation” of theater policy.
In response to the weighty accusations lobbed in her direction, the 35-year-old woman in question attempted to defend herself, claiming: “I’m not a bad woman, I just went out on a date.” Well, that’s for the courts to decide. In the meantime, the woman also plans to file for a protective order against Vezmar to stop him from reaching out to her family members asking for the money.
As the nation awaits the court’s verdict with bated breath, director James Gunn has weighed in with his important—if unofficial—opinion.
Why stop at suing? She deserves jail time! https://t.co/c41MWGz74M

A strong stance to take for sure, but one that’s grounded in an honorable pursuit of justice. May we all hold as strongly to our moral values as Brandon Vezmar.
