In an interview with El Pais, Juan Antonia Bayona, who is set to direct Jurassic World 2, suggests that the budget could be more than $100 million more for the sequel. The interview, which was picked up by Scified, suggests that Bayona confirmed the budget would be $260 million, but that Bayona did not give a reason for this large increase.
The increase to a $260-million budget would make Jurassic World 2 one of the most expensive films ever made, behind only Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($378.5 million), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End ($300 million) and John Carter ($263.7 million). The film would be tied with Tangled.
Bayona also confirmed that the film has an official title, which will be formally announced at a later date. Jeff Goldblum suggested that he would open to appearing in the sequel, so maybe all that money is for him. Either way, it looks like Hollywood is taking a classic approach to fixing the problems people had with a film … throwing more money at it.
