Mary and the Witch’s Flower Earns Special Encore Screenings After Box-Office Success

In case you missed Studio Ponoc’s debut animated film, Mary and the Witch’s Flower, don’t take it too hard. The studio has partnered with GKIDS and Fathom Events for a special two-day-only encore screening of the movie in select theaters on Feb. 24 and 26.

After a massive wave of audience anticipation, Fathom Events initially released the movie in a special premiere event on Jan. 18. Preceding the movie, during the premiere, fans could enjoy an exclusive interview with the animator and Academy Award-nominated director of Mary and the Witch’s Flower, Hiromasa Yonebayashi. The premiere event grossed $1.1 million, leading the film to debut at number three on that day’s box office, with the highest per-screen-average attendance. The film now stands at $1.9 million, making it the most successful GKIDS theatrical release in the company’s history. More importantly, it has proven to the world that Studio Ponoc can deliver breathtaking animation and fantastical storylines, even after Studio Ghibli.

Mary and the Witch’s Flower’s encore will be screened first in English on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 12:55 p.m. local time. Then, the film will come back for one last time in its original Japanese (with English subtitles) on Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. local time. You can purchase tickets for the event through Fathom Events. See the encore trailer for Mary and the Witch’s Flower below, followed by the special event movie poster.
